HOW TO SELECT A CONTRACTOR
Check for insurance. If they
don't have both liability and workers compensation,
don't let them in your home. If an employee of the
company is injured on your property you will be
liable. Worse, if they cause damage to your home you
will have little recourse. Any reputable contractor
will have no problem providing this documentation
for you. If they do not provide the documentation,
do not use them!
Make sure they are members in
good standing with the Better Business Bureau. Also
check their rating and their complaint history. If
they have unanswered complaints be careful.
Always Be Sure You Know Who You
are Hiring to do Work in Your Home
Ask lots of
questions. For instance, are there any hidden fees
or costs? Is their work guaranteed? Will they re-do
anything that you're not happy with before they
leave with your money. There is nothing worse than a
job half done and a contractor that won't come back
to finish.
Only hire a contractor who
has at least 10 years experience performing the type
of work you are hiring them to do for you. This way
you don't have to wonder if they know what they are
doing. There no substitute for experience.
Never hire a contractor that
makes you feel uncomfortable. Always trust your
instincts.
